TRIO Student Support Services Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the TRIO Student Support Services Program!  Student Support Services (SSS) is one of the eight federal TRIO programs that serve post-secondary students who are first-generation, income eligible or who has a disability but demonstrates an academic need for support.  

Student Support Services was first authorized in the 1968 reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, which established President Lyndon B. Johnson’s goal of seeing that “no American talent is wasted.”

President Sharon Pierce Appointed to the National Higher Education Commission

Minneapolis College is pleased to announce that President Sharon Pierce has been named to the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Commission on Student Success.

During this 3-year term, Pierce will join higher education leaders from across the nation to advance the AACC’s work on student access and success as well as organizational transformation. 

Williams Appointed as Minneapolis College's Chief Diversity Officer

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (Minneapolis College) has appointed Dr. Jay Williams as its Chief Diversity Officer. Minneapolis College President Sharon Pierce appointed Williams effective November 17 following an interim period.

“I can’t imagine anyone more prepared to lead this important work for our College,” said Pierce. “We would be hard-pressed to find anyone with Jay’s passion for equity and inclusion or his strong commitment to Minneapolis College.”

Troy Dvorak has been known to let his hair down on occasion. 

The faculty and staff at Minneapolis College are known for their innovative ways of empowering and inspiring student success. Troy Dvorak, psychology instructor who is known for his mantra "psychology rocks," figured out a way to make learning a bit easier and outlines it in his new book, Studying vs. Learning: The Psychology of Student Success.
