This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the TRIO Student Support Services Program!  Student Support Services (SSS) is one of the eight federal TRIO programs that serve post-secondary students who are first-generation, income eligible or who has a disability but demonstrates an academic need for support.  

Student Support Services was first authorized in the 1968 reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, which established President Lyndon B. Johnson’s goal of seeing that “no American talent is wasted.”

The new Academic Success Center is located on the 3rd floor of the Technical Building (T.3200).

We offer a modern, new environment for services including:

• Tutoring
• Computer Lab
• Speech Practice Lab
• Individual & Group Study Areas

These services are available to students at no cost.

When Minneapolis College student Tendar Tsering was 12 years old, he decided to leave his family in Tibet and cross the Himalayan Mountains to study in India. His passion for the field of healthcare motivated him as he embarked on this dangerous month-long journey of more than a thousand miles.

Minneapolis College is pleased to announce that President Sharon Pierce has been named to the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Commission on Student Success.

During this 3-year term, Pierce will join higher education leaders from across the nation to advance the AACC’s work on student access and success as well as organizational transformation.

Minneapolis Community and Technical College (Minneapolis College) has appointed Dr. Jay Williams as its Chief Diversity Officer. Minneapolis College President Sharon Pierce appointed Williams effective November 17 following an interim period.

“I can’t imagine anyone more prepared to lead this important work for our College,” said Pierce. “We would be hard-pressed to find anyone with Jay’s passion for equity and inclusion or his strong commitment to Minneapolis College.”

Troy Dvorak has been known to let his hair down on occasion. 

The faculty and staff at Minneapolis College are known for their innovative ways of empowering and inspiring student success. Troy Dvorak, psychology instructor who is known for his mantra "psychology rocks," figured out a way to make learning a bit easier and outlines it in his new book, Studying vs. Learning: The Psychology of Student Success.

LeadMN, the Minnesota State two-year college student association, has announced that its Instructor of the Year for 2017-18 is Maran Wolston, Minneapolis College philosophy faculty.

Maran received the award on Saturday, April 21, at LeadMN’s annual Spring Assembly.
