Four of our star HVACR students recently competed in the Minnesota State SkillsUSA HVACR contest held on April 13th at the Minneapolis Pipefitter's Training Center in Brooklyn Park. Brady Lockwood, third from left and wearing the gold medal, came in first place and will compete at the national SkillsUSA contest in Louisville, KY in June. The other Minneapolis College contestants were (from left) Tucker Skogstad, Issac Lundy, and Stan Phillips.

Minneapolis College Among Best in Contest Every Year

The highly-regarded SkillsUSA competition is held every year at the end of March or beginning of April and judged by HVACR industry professionals. There were over $8000.00 in prizes, cash, and scholarships sponsored by HVACR companies given out to the top three competitors. Since 1995, Minneapolis College has placed at or near the top virtually every year.

Says Instructor Skudlarek, “Most of our HVACR students involved in the contest already have HVACR jobs, but for those that don’t, just competing in the contest looks good on a resume and HVACR contractors recognize the competition as a major accomplishment for the students.”
