The School of Liberal Arts and Cultures and Student Life at Minneapolis College are hosting a virtual release and panel discussion featuring editors and writers from the book We are Meant to Rise: Voices for Justice from Minneapolis to the World on April 14 from Noon to 1:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Over the past few months, an unprecedented amount of anti-trans legislation has swept across the nation. Of the 170+ proposed bills this year, nearly 20+ have targeted the trans and LGBATQIA+ Community. This level of profiling is disturbing and does not align with the ideals of equity and inclusivity that we strive to promote here at Minneapolis College.

Teach Together Minnesota! Brings Educators Together

Teach Together Minnesota! is a free, virtual conference designed to bring together educators from across Minnesota to have discussions with colleagues in their field of study grounded in cultural fluency and culturally relevant pedagogies.

Registration is open and the event will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Miki Huntington, a member of the Political Science Faculty at Minneapolis College, has participated in the conference for two years.

Minneapolis College receives Ready for Pell Grant

Minneapolis College has been selected as one of 22 nationwide grant partners for Ready for Pell, a two-year strategic initiative for institutions providing postsecondary education in prison (PEP), to help them navigate the upcoming changes to the Pell Grant program for student financial assistance.

Funding of up to $120,000 is provided by Jobs for the Future and (JFF) and Ascendium Education Group.

The Struggle is Still Real: A Plea to Vote

The following essay was awarded a $1,000 scholarship in the Racial Justice Oratorical Contest, held earlier this year in conjunction with the Martin Luther King, Jr.’s celebration, “Amplifying Beloved Community.” The contest was open to Minneapolis College students, as well as juniors and seniors attending Metro Area public high schools. This year’s topic was Voting Rights.

Justin Third enrolled at Minneapolis College during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly learned he had a passion and a knack for the world of information technology, disability advocacy, leadership and mentoring. A native of Alabama, he is the first in his family to pursue a college education and found possibility in what he had thought impossible.
