The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) announced the recipients of its annual Regional Awards for community college trustees, equity programs, chief executive officers, faculty members, and professional board staff members. Minneapolis College philosophy faculty member Lisa Bergin received a 2022 Faculty Member Award for the Central Region of ACCT.

ACCT's Regional Awards recognize the tremendous contributions made by community colleges and their leaders to meet the needs of their communities.

“I always hoped I would be nominated,” said Bergin, who prides herself on being part of a connected group of outstanding faculty members at Minneapolis College. “This award is a testament to our faculty and our students. I share this award in spirit because I couldn’t have gotten here without their dedication, support and mentorship.”

When Bergin joined Minneapolis College, she brought 14 years of teaching experience and a well-rounded philosophy discourse with her. Since arriving at the College, she has been encouraged by colleagues to further develop her craft, pursue best practices, and standards for teaching. She embraced every opportunity to learn and credits the creativity, compassion, and drive she brings to her work to her students who are skilled at advocating for faculty to show up as their best selves. In turn, she guides students to their own brilliance and supports faculty in developing their own leadership and teaching skills.

“Community colleges are unique institutions dedicated to making high-quality higher education accessible for all Americans,” said ACCT President and CEO Lee Hang Lee. “This year’s regional ACCT awardees represent the most outstanding people and programs from throughout the country, and we are excited to be able to bring attention to them.”

Bergin will travel to New York City where one outstanding award recipient in several categories will be announced during the Annual ACCT Awards Gala on Friday, October 28 at Marriott Marquis in New York, New York, in conjunction with the 2022 ACCT Leadership Congress.

ACCT is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond.
