Jonathan Lofgren receives the Collegiate Recovery Cornerstone Award for Student Support

Using his personal story of recovery and not having a place on-campus to support him while he was in school, Lofgren was inspired to create a space for the students he worked with. “They [didn’t] have a place on campus where they can just be themselves and not really worry about stigma,” said Lofgren. “And get the kind of peer-to-peer support that is so vital to academic success, but also really vital to recovery success.”

Minneapolis College’s Sustainability Committee is dedicating the month of May to Biodiversity, in recognition of the International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22.  Variety is not only the spice of life—variations within ecosystems, among species (animals, insects, plants, single-cell organisms), and even within our genes are essential for robust, healthy, interconnected natural systems.

Kathy Rumpza to Lead Marketing at Minneapolis College

Minneapolis College has announced the appointment of Kathy Rumpza as Director of Marketing and Communication. Rumpza brings more than 20 years of educational marketing leadership into her new role leading the college’s Marketing Communications Department.

“We are fortunate to have Kathy lead our marketing efforts as we continue providing transformational educational experiences for our students,” said Dr. Sharon Pierce, Minneapolis College president.

Faculty Recital on Tuesday, May 5 via ZOOM!

The Music Department at Minneapolis College presents its annual Music Faculty Recital on Tuesday May 5 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. for the first time ever on Zoom. Members of the music faculty are experienced performers, in a variety of styles from jazz and blues to folk and classical. This melding of musical traditions creates an eclectic and engaging event.

This event is co-sponsored by the Minneapolis College Music Department and the School of Design and the Arts.

Minnesota State Releases Basic Needs Survey

60% of college students, 54% of university students responding have experienced some form of basic needs insecurity in the previous year.

The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice released the results of the 2020 #RealCollege survey of students at 28 Minnesota State colleges and universities. The survey, which is an assessment of basic needs insecurity among college students, shows that:
