Transferring Made Easy

As every aspect of our lives changes around us and we seek new ways to adapt to our surroundings and reach our goals, Minneapolis College is quickly shifting to meet the needs of students by streamlining its transfer pathways.

“We have always been known as a transfer-friendly institution,” said Heidi Aldes, interim dean, enrollment management at Minneapolis College. “We are now seeking ways to make it even easier to transfer to and from the college so you can reach your educational goals with ease.”

Mindfulness Sets a Mood at Minneapolis College

Little did Jenny Sippel realize that attending yoga classes in 2005 would eventually inspire her to adopt what she terms “a revealing and healing approach” to exploring the nature of things internally and externally at Minneapolis College. It’s called mindfulness.

Or, consider a staged snowball fight leveraged a $25,000 State of Minnesota Educational Innovations grant to organize a mindfulness summit and expand mindfulness practices at Minneapolis College.

Application Fees Waived in October

For a limited time, prospective students can apply for admission to Minneapolis College without paying an undergraduate application fee. The offer is part of Minnesota State Week and College Knowledge Month—promotions that are both intended to encourage students to take the first steps in their higher educational journey.

Fall Minnesota State Week will be held October 12–16 to coincide with MEA week and the many admissions events happening in mid-October.

Exploring Identity Through Photography

Minneapolis College Instructor Kristine Heykants worked with the Hennepin Theatre Trust and students of The FAIR School in Downtown Minneapolis to create images surrounding the topic of Identity.

Heykants teaches in the Photography and Digital Imaging Department and led a workshop for the teenagers to explore identity through photography. The FAIR School’s dedication to equity and social justice inspired Heykants to center the workshops around this subject.

Advocacy Through Co-curriculars

When Brian Lindell began his journey at Minneapolis College in the in the Spring of 2018, he was interested in the Addiction Counseling Program. This interest quickly moved beyond the classroom, transforming into a passion for student leadership.

The Urban Farm Collective

Minneapolis College’s student gardening club, The Urban Farm Collective, has existed in one form or another for nearly 10 years. Students and staff interested in plants, organic farming, sustainable agriculture, reducing food deserts, and providing food security have devoted thousands of volunteer hours over the years to supporting these efforts.
