With the Derek Chauvin trial now behind us, we stand in solidarity with others in our city, state and nation who are committed to enacting change. The anguish our community has suffered since the tragic death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 cannot be erased by Chauvin’s conviction. Nor can the outcome of this trial negate the ongoing crises in our communities where systemic injustices persist.

Minneapolis College has launched a captivating virtual campus tour that introduces a unique magic carpet-like experience of strolling through campus hallways, common areas and classrooms.
“With so many amazing spaces on campus, we had a lot of wonderful things to showcase,” Director of Admissions Genna Anderson said. “This immersive experience gives future students the feeling of being on campus from the comfort of home. It provides a snapshot of campus without being here and a way for people to get their sense of place and space.
Most of us have had the thought, and likely even daydreamed about, pulling up stakes and traveling far from home in search of a new experience, and hopefully a new community. Katherine Pitt did just that when she moved to Minneapolis from the United Kingdom on an F1 visa to study math. The reason she stayed was because she found that community in the Twin Cities, starting with Minneapolis College.
Addictionology, pharmacology and sociology — Nicole Chmielewski has a full course load in Minneapolis College’s Addiction Counseling Program on the books her first semester back to school in more than 20 years thanks to hard work, dedication and the support of a Workforce Development Scholarship. She’s letting the universe guide her as she navigates school and working full-time at a fine men’s hair salon.
As a young girl in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Aster Endeshaw learned the importance of responsibility. She was taught to care for her family and community and always share her knowledge with others. As she begins her first semester as a student at Minneapolis College studying computer support and network administration, she is already planning to educate people in Ethiopia when she completes her degree.
Spring is often the busiest time for the Minneapolis College Choir. But last spring, everything changed. As the world shut down in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Minneapolis College Choir members saw their once full calendars empty almost overnight — no concerts, no school visits, no live performances.
