Minneapolis College seeks to “amplify beloved community” with it’s 2nd annual MLK Oratorical contest. For its inaugural year, the contest focused on race and exploring ways communities can heal from racial injustice. This year the focus is voting rights.

“The restrictions that are being brought to bear on voting seemed a timely and meaningful topic,” said Charles Watson, Coordinator of the African American Empowerment (AME) Program. Watson is also the committee chair for the College’s MLK Day programming committee.

Preparing Students for Work or Transfer

The field of Environmental Science arose as a multidisciplinary approach to studying the effects of human activities on the planet and to solve environmental problems. This requires developing a foundation of understanding in biological, chemical, physical and social processes.

Students ‘energized and engaged – 100 percent attendance’

Minneapolis College and Lino Lakes Correctional Facility joined in a partnership this fall to provide all eligible incarcerated students the opportunity to achieve a two-year Associate of Arts degree.

“The college education I received at St. Cloud State University was such a profound experience, I wanted to work there,” said Heidi Aldes, Dean of Enrollment Management at Minneapolis College. “I started my career in admissions, moved to LGBTQ education and finally into graduate enrollment. At every step, I was inspired by the students, faculty, staff and the outcomes that resulted from hard work and dedication toward a common goal.”

Josh Aguayo is a Pre-Law Transfer Pathways student graduating in Spring 2022, a passionate legislative and policy change advocate, he was recently elected as the Director of Advocacy for Student Senate and is running an ambitious campaign to promote National Voters Registration Day at Minneapolis College.

Q: What is National Voter Registration Day?

The Student Life Department is excited to announce its plans for the first-ever Minneapolis College Fall Spirit Day! The event will take place on Wednesday, September 29 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. All students, faculty and staff are invited to wear purple and come and enjoy the festivities!

Various activities, sponsored by College departments and student clubs, will be held outside on the T-Plaza (rain location: Gymnasium). Activities will include inflatables, fun activities, bingo, lawn games, food, music and more!

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of web developers and digital designers is projected to grow 13 percent from 2020 to 2030, faster than the average for all occupations. That’s 17,900 openings for web developers and digital designers projected each year, on average, over the next decade.

The American Indian Success (AIS) Program is seeking artists to be featured in the Indigenous Peoples Art Exhibit. The exhibit is set to launch during Native American Heritage Month in November.

Write Like Us will host ten writers in residence during the 2021-2022 academic year, its inaugural season, centering and celebrating the work of BIPOC writers and writing students, fostering literary mentorship and leadership as it builds a platform for shared stories, voices and lived experiences.

This fall, Minneapolis College School of Design and the Arts, Dunwoody College of Technology, the Walker Art Center, and MSP National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) with AIA Minnesota join forces to launch an inaugural lecture series focusing on questions of ethics, equity, justice and culture in relation to design practices and education.
