You are invited to join us as we celebrate the success and presence of first-generation college students, faculty and staff at Minneapolis College! Started by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the NASPA Center for First-Generation Student Success, First Generation College Student Day takes place on campuses across the country on November 8.  

This year, we are hosting events virtually Monday, November 8 and in-person Tuesday, November 9. You can also participate by completing this brief form, to share a little bit about your First Gen Proud story with us, which will then be posted on our webpage!

Monday, November 8: Virtual Events 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

  • 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. | What’s Next? Career Workshop | ZOOM Room
    This workshop will highlight the career development stages and services provided by Career Services. You will get an opportunity to outline a career development plan that aligns with your current major and career choices.
  • 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. | Financial Literacy Workshop: Know Your Limits!  | ZOOM Room
    All financial aid programs have limits. Planning now will help you complete your degree at Minneapolis College and transfer goals! 
  • 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. | First Gen Student and Staff Panel | ZOOM Room
    Celebrate the presence, experiences and contributions of first-generation college students, faculty, and staff at Minneapolis College.
  • 2:30 - 4 p.m. | Walk In My Shoes Documentary Viewing & Discussion | ZOOM Room
    A documentary exploring what would it be like to be the first in your family to navigate your way through the college experience. The documentary traveled to the hometowns of five current K-State students and three alumni who are not only the first in their families to graduate from college but are also working in education. Their life stories of overcoming challenges, realizing their potential, and giving back are not only inspiring, but instill hope and provide examples for all students. Discussion will follow.
  • All Day: Virtual Resource Quiz
    Minneapolis College provides students with a variety of resources and support. Why not take the Virtual Resource Quiz and discover what we have to offer? In addition, students who compete the Virtual Resource Quiz, will be entered into a drawing for an e-Gift Card. WOW! Research www.minneapolis.edu or the internet to answer 5 resource quiz questions.     Celebrate YOU and join the other first gen students at Minneapolis College at our fun selfie station! Post your pictures and claim your status as a proud first-generation college student!
