Faith Ross Named Director of Advancement and Minneapolis College Foundation

Twenty-two years ago, Faith Ross walked through the doors of Minneapolis College as a 17-year-old Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) student. “Attending college as a high school senior was a transformative experience for me,” said Ross, who grew up in South Minneapolis and lived in Washburn’s district, but attended Southwest High School for their International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. 

Urban Farm Collective

The work of the students who are part of the Minneapolis College Urban Farm Collective student club is well under way. An array of crops including potatoes, squash, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, herbs, melons, corn, and peas are planted and will be harvested throughout the summer and fall. The end goal is to decrease food insecurities by donating more than 250 pounds of fresh produce to students, faculty, staff, and community members in need.  

Minnesota State Week June 23-27

Minnesota State Week runs June 23–27, 2025. During this week, all 33 Minnesota State colleges and universities will waive undergraduate application fees and host campus tours and information sessions.

The goal of Minnesota State Week is to make it as easy as possible for prospective students to get the information they need to help them make the best higher education and career choice they can.

Empower and Thrive: Foster Resource Fair

A new collaboration between Minneapolis College and Foster Advocates strives to deliver annual programming for young adults and adults who have experienced out-of-home care or foster care. Included in this annual programming are outlets towards access and opportunity for post-secondary education and connections to supporting resources, creating empowering pathways for foster young adults and adults to achieve their goals. 

Forging His Way in the Field of HVACR

Minneapolis College Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) student Ben Oman was humbled and honored to earn first place in the 2025 SkillsUSA Minnesota State Leadership and Skills Conference held in early April. Oman competed alongside his classmates Kyle Kusie, Henry Morris, and Michael Rutherford as well as 555 of the top career and technical education students from 25 schools across the state. Oman then moved on to compete in the SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta from June 21-27.

Resilience Amidst Adversity

Challenging life experiences including dropping out of high school twice, housing insecurity, and low wage jobs fueled alum Carolyn Parker’s strong desire to achieve success both academically and in her career. So, in January 2012, when she was hit by a van as she crossed the street heading to her first day of classes at Minneapolis College, she moved gracefully through the unexpected setback, persevering through health challenges, ultimately finishing the semester that set her on an amazing journey.

Two Faculty Named 2025 Outstanding Educators

Miki Huntington, political science faculty, and Jonathan “Doc” Lofgren, Addiction Counseling faculty, were named 2025 Outstanding Educators by the Minnesota State Board of Trustees. 

These awards are conferred annually to college and university teaching faculty and university administrative service faculty to acknowledge and provide systemwide recognition for consistently superior commitment to student learning and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence at the colleges and universities of Minnesota State.

HVACR Students Compete at SkillsUSA Minnesota

Career and technical education (CTE) students from across Minnesota brought home medals and honors from the 2025 SkillsUSA Minnesota State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC), held April 4–5, 2025.

This annual state championship event highlighted the talents of Minnesota's top CTE students. A total of 555 student members from 25 schools competed in 57 trade, technical, and leadership contests.
