Naomi Thomas is New Dean of Nursing, Health Sciences, and Wellness

Dr. Naomi Thomas will be joining Minneapolis College as Dean of Nursing, Health Sciences, and Wellness. Thomas’ first day at the College will be Wednesday, August 2.

Thomas has worked in healthcare leadership for more than 26 years in several capacities: educator, Administrative Nursing Supervisor, Patient Care Nurse Manager, Operations Manager, and Director of Clinical Operations. Her clinical experience consists of ICU, ED, Rapid Response, surgical services, and community health care.

Spend eight days sharpening your skills and setting yourself up for fall semester! The Virtual Summer Scholars Academy is a great opportunity for Minneapolis College students with a READ 0200 course placement.

This free program builds confidence and allows students to network virtually with peers and staff from Minneapolis College. This program also offers a chance for a \$300 scholarship towards fall semester tuition. Capacity is limited, registration closes on July 10. 

Inspiring Meaningful Change

Alum Joseph Jackson moved to the Twin Cities from Iowa to support his brother’s family with childcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. There, while helping care for two young children, he was encouraged to pursue a higher education. Minneapolis College offered Jackson an economics transfer pathway and the downtown campus was close to where he was living and working. He enrolled in the fall of 2021 and quickly embraced the college experience through his studies and extracurricular involvement.

Juneteenth Celebration

Students, faculty, staff, and friends are invited on campus for Juneteenth, the newest national holiday, a celebration of African American emancipation on Wednesday, June 14, noon - 2 p.m. in T.1400.

This community-wide Juneteenth event will include live jazz music performed by Kenne Thomas and Lifeforce, lunch catered by Tiffin Man, and a presentation featuring activist, film maker, producer, and community organizer Lee H. Jordan, sharing the what, why and how of Juneteenth.

WCCO’s Reg Chapman to Emcee 2023 Commencement

Minneapolis College is pleased to announce WCCO reporter Reg Chapman as Emcee of the 2023 Commencement Ceremony on May 12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Chapman, a Gulf War veteran, graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha where he earned a bachelor of science degree in broadcast journalism. He has received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting, several Associated Press awards, honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the YMCA honored him as a Black Achiever.
