On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse moved across North America passing over the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The breathtaking site contributed to millions of people traveling to parts of the world where they could view the eclipse in its totality.

Packed in a car with her boyfriend and his family, seated in the back seat with his two younger siblings, Minneapolis College student Raven Holm drove 10 hours from Minneapolis to the small town of Effingham in Southern Illinois to view the eclipse.

The Minnesota Book Awards is a program of The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library as the Minnesota Center for the Book.

The winners of the 2024 Minnesota Book Awards were announced on Tuesday, May 7 in a live Ceremony at the Ordway.

At the end of the academic year, we often look back at our experiences as a community. This year, it is important for us to look forward, as well. Reflecting on our challenges and accomplishments, I am filled with pride. Focusing on what they mean for our future, I am filled with excitement for what lies ahead.

Jr. Page Scholars visited Minneapolis College in April to learn about career pathways as well as student experiences on campus.

This scholarship program is based on the Page Scholar program, founded by Diane Sims and former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, for college-age students of color. The Jr. Page Scholar program focuses on 8th graders who want to explore and gain insight on different career opportunities.

Ella Thomsen, a film student at Minneapolis College, enjoys making films that make the audience feel seen.

“There are a lot of people who don’t see themselves represented accurately,” said Thomsen, who just graduated high school in June. She feels teens specifically aren’t represented well on screen.

The Minnesota State Bookstore Collaborative Services group of stores saved students $11.6 million via Inclusive Access digital course material programs across six of our two-year colleges in a seven-year span of the program. These verifiable savings are calculated as a comparison between the cost of a traditional text format versus a digital version.

The Board of Trustees of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has recognized four individuals with Awards for Excellence. Included were Minneapolis College faculty Hope Doerner and Kendra-Ann Seenandan-Sookdeo. 

The awards are conferred annually to college and university teaching faculty and university administrative service faculty to acknowledge and provide systemwide recognition for consistently superior commitment to student learning and to encourage the ongoing pursuit of excellence at the colleges and universities of Minnesota State.
