Alum Joseph Jackson moved to the Twin Cities from Iowa to support his brother’s family with childcare during the COVID-19 pandemic. There, while helping care for two young children, he was encouraged to pursue a higher education. Minneapolis College offered Jackson an economics transfer pathway and the downtown campus was close to where he was living and working. He enrolled in the fall of 2021 and quickly embraced the college experience through his studies and extracurricular involvement.

Students, faculty, staff, and friends are invited on campus for Juneteenth, the newest national holiday, a celebration of African American emancipation on Wednesday, June 14, noon - 2 p.m. in T.1400.

This community-wide Juneteenth event will include live jazz music performed by Kenne Thomas and Lifeforce, lunch catered by Tiffin Man, and a presentation featuring activist, film maker, producer, and community organizer Lee H. Jordan, sharing the what, why and how of Juneteenth.

When Minneapolis College alum Errol Ilbuga graduated from Rochester Century High School in 2008, he took a gap year, working for a home construction company to save money for college.

The Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities has appointed Scott Olson to serve as the next chancellor of Minnesota State, effective August 1, 2023.

Minneapolis College is pleased to announce WCCO reporter Reg Chapman as Emcee of the 2023 Commencement Ceremony on May 12 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Chapman, a Gulf War veteran, graduated from the University of Nebraska Omaha where he earned a bachelor of science degree in broadcast journalism. He has received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting, several Associated Press awards, honors from the Society of Professional Journalists and the YMCA honored him as a Black Achiever.

The Minneapolis College Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician Certificate, launched in 2021, prepares students for immediate employment in technical positions in the bicycle industry with the skills required to assemble all types and brands of new bicycles. Students garner a level of skill that ensures rider safety and the bicycle’s effective performance.

In 2018, the College launched its comprehensive brand identity system, with a new brand platform, look, and logo. Now, five years later, the logo has been further updated for clarity and consistency. The logo/name “Minneapolis College” will be used for branding purposes, while the full name “Minneapolis Community and Technical College” will be reserved for formal/legal purposes.

Shannon Gibney, English and global studies faculty at Minneapolis College, was selected as an Educator of the Year at the 2023 Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence. Described as a dynamic presence in the classroom, Gibney helps students see where they are, who they are, and how they might meet their personal and educational goals.

Bobbie Denson Davis has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Human Resources and Workforce Equity at Minneapolis College, effective July 1, 2023. 

Davis came to Minneapolis College in 2011 with 18 years of experience in corporate human resources. She served as Interim Vice President of Human Resources for three months during 2022 and currently serves as Human Resources Manager. 

Minneapolis College will showcase its most ambitious student fashion show in school history on Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m., celebrating the work of its largest and most diverse cohort of fashion design students to date. 

The event, themed “A Revival of Expression,” will take place in the Minneapolis College T Plaza courtyard and will be live-streamed.
