Minneapolis College has a number of unique programs that offer students an opportunity to pursue their interests and passions in a specialized area of study. Unique programs are often designed in response to industry demands and changing market trends. They aim to bridge the gap between academia and the job market by equipping students with the skills and competencies required by specific industries.

Apparel Technologies Program
Minneapolis College’s Apparel Technologies program sets itself apart by teaching students both the creative aspects of fashion design and the technical sewing and computer-assisted design (CAD) skills they need to translate their ideas into beautiful garments. The program actively collaborates with industry partners like Target Corporation and other members of the Apparel Technologies and Services Association. Through these industry and association connections, students in the Apparel Technologies program have a chance to showcase their work in fashion shows and connect with practicing designers from industry.

Applied Professional Skills Certificate
The Applied Professional Skills Certificate provides students with business communication skills plus expertise in key business tools such as Microsoft Office 365, including Excel and Power BI. According to Burning Glass Research, such productivity software skills are often “requirements” for many clerical, sales, and entry-level finance roles, providing “a pathway to employment.” This certificate can be completed completely online in as little as four months.

Herbal Studies Certificate
Minneapolis College offers the country’s only undergraduate certificate award in herbal studies. The Herbal Studies certificate can be completed in just nine months. Upon completion, students will understand traditional and holistic approaches to herbal medicine in addition to current scientific research and herbal product market trends, preparing them for employment in the herbal products field. The certificate also pairs well with health-related degrees for those wishing to have a background in herbal medicine

Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician Certificate
Minneapolis College’s Bicycle Assembly and Repair Technician program is one of only two college programs in the country that educate students to work as bicycle repair and assembly technicians in the fast-growing retail bicycle industry. Minneapolis College established this program in 2021 in partnership with the Bicycle Industry Employers Association (BIEA), a non-profit consortium of industry employers that includes some of the largest bike retail and manufacturing companies in the country. In the College’s expansive, state-of-the-art lab, working with both traditional and electric bicycles, students learn both the technical and business skills needed to work in the retail bicycle industry.

Online Graphic Design and Web Design Programs 
Minneapolis’s Graphic Design and Front-end Web Design programs are among the few offered by Minnesota-based colleges that can be completed entirely online. With our innovative teaching and curriculum, faculty members combine years of industry experience with their strong academic backgrounds. Our graduates have gone on to successful careers in graphic design and web development at organizations such as: Adobe, Target, Best Buy, Periscope, General Mills, Clockwork, and 3M.
