Tutoring and Mentoring Appointments
Work online or in person with a tutor in writing, math, biology, chemistry, study skills, computer software, or other subjects. If you don't need help with a specific course, but would like to talk with someone to troubleshoot a problem or get to know the many college resources, meet with one of our student peer mentors for an encouraging and empathetic ear!
If you have any questions, please email the Academic Success Center or call us at 612-659-6140. Calls are received Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
SCHEDULING Process:
- Login to Navigate. Select "Appointments," then "Schedule an Appointment."
- Navigate will indicate whether your appointment is online or in T3200.
If your appointment is online, activate your college Zoom account through D2L/Resources/Zoom; log in with your StarID. - At the appointment time, click the link in the confirmation email for online appointments, or check in at the front desk in T3200 for on-campus appointments.

Need help with your essay? Having trouble getting started, or do you just want some fresh eyes on your work? Now you can get help at every stage of the writing process, from start to finish, right here at the ASC! Each week, we focus on a different writing challenge, from brainstorming to finishing touches!
You can attend our workshops either in-person at the Academic Success Center (T.3200), or virtually over Zoom.

We'll go over the parts of speech and the basic rules of grammar and punctuation to help you brush up your skills. You'll see common errors and find out how to correct and avoid them.
The Best Laid Plans: Prewriting and Organization (TBD)
Sometimes the hardest part of essay writing is taking the first step. This workshop will focus on brainstorming activities that will help you jump-start your writing process!
Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Application Essays That Get Noticed (TBD)
We’ll explore the dos and don’ts of writing personal statements for college applications and scholarships.
Ways to Praise: Fundamentals of Peer Review and Feedback (TBD)
In this workshop, we will learn to offer feedback your classmates can really use, from kudos to tough love.

The hardest parts of flying an airplane are taking off and landing. When writing essays, introductions and conclusions can also be especially challenging. We will learn to create beginnings and endings that will make your work memorable.
Words Matter: Inclusive Language Guidelines (TBD)
Bias happens when we choose language that overlooks the differences that make us unique. We'll learn ways to reduce bias in our writing and make it more inclusive.
Due Diligence: Adding Your Research (Quote/Paraphrase/Summary) (TBD)
In this workshop, we will find the best way to use outside sources to support our arguments.
MLA/APA Citation and Formatting Basics (TBD)
You always want to give credit where it's due. This workshop provides a useful guide to formatting your essay, adding accurate in-text citations, and composing your Reference/Works Cited pages.

Minneapolis College offers 15 hours of free online tutoring per academic year through Tutor.com, an online 24/7 tutoring service.
To access Tutor.com:

Placement Test Prep

Tutoring Success Tips and Expectations
- Be on time and keep appointments.
Students may schedule up to 60 minutes per subject each day using Navigate or by contacting the Academic Success Center at 612-659-6140. Please contact us if you will be late or if you need to reschedule. - Arrive prepared.

Write down your questions.
Bring your class notes, syllabus, and/or assignment sheet.
Silence your cell phone. - Academic Integrity is required.
Tutors can provide helpful study tips, review and explain key concepts, work through examples, help you understand assignment instructions, discuss patterns of errors and how you can correct them, coach you in how to proofread your work, and offer constructive feedback and encouragement. For quality purposes, all online tutoring appointments are recorded.
Tutoring is not a replacement for class/lecture. Tutors cannot assist in any way with a quiz or exam, provide answers to an assignment, be on standby while you complete an assignment, check or edit assignments or papers, or summarize reading assignments. - Enrollment in Minneapolis College courses is required to receive tutoring services. Enrolled students may receive 1 hour of tutoring per class, per day.
