FYST 1000, Orientation to Higher Education (FREE 2-credit course)
FYST 1000 – Orientation to Higher Education for Veterans and Military Students
This course is designed for veterans and military students, and veterans dependents and spouses, to increase success in college by working with them in obtaining skills necessary to reach their educational, professional, and/or personal objectives.
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- College policies and expectations
- Diversity, relationships
- Time management
- Academic and career goal-setting
- Self-awareness in learning
- Critical thinking
- Financial literacy
- Overview of study skills in the areas of -
- reading
- writing
- math
- test-taking strategies
- note-taking strategies.
Additional support will be provided by tutors, campus resources, and community partners in the Veterans Welcome Center (T.3406).
Eligibility
This course is FREE to qualifying military veterans, service members, spouses, dependents.
