You are considered a visiting student if you are interested in a class or classes, but not a degree, diploma, or certificate from Minneapolis College.
Sometimes you just want to take a class or two - - no problem! Students wanting to take a course (or courses) at Minneapolis College but aren’t seeking a degree, diploma or a certificate, can enroll as a “visiting student.”
Visiting Student Registration Requirements
- Visiting students do not need to submit an admission application to Minneapolis College.
- Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid from Minneapolis College, as they are not seeking a degree, diploma or certificate here. If students are seeking a degree from another institution, they are encouraged to talk to that institution about financial aid options.
- If visiting students are seeking a degree from another institution, they are encouraged to check that institution about course transferability before registering.
- Visiting students must meet all course prerequisites.
- Visiting students are encouraged to complete the Student Checklist to familiarize themselves with Minneapolis College resources and set themselves up for success.
- If you decide to complete a degree, diploma, or certificate program at Minneapolis College, you will need to apply as a transfer student
Visiting Minnesota State Students Registering with a StarID
Follow these steps if you are a current student at another Minnesota State system college or university, but are not seeking a degree, diploma, or certificate at Minneapolis College.
- Log into eServices at your home institution with your existing StarID and password
- Select Courses & Registration, then Search for a course. Select Minneapolis Community and Technical College from the College/Universities menu.
- Find your desired course at Minneapolis College and add it to your Wish List
- Review your plan and register. If you receive a message that your registration failed because of placement or course prerequisites, verify you meet the course placements or prerequisites. Then, submit a Prerequisite Verification form. Attach unofficial transcripts to show that you have met the course prerequisites. Questions about prerequisites or this process can be directed to registration@minneapolis.edu.

Visiting Students Registering Without a StarID
Follow these steps if you are not currently admitted at another Minnesota State system college or university, plan to take only select courses at Minneapolis College, and are not seeking a degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Click on this link and create a Star ID. Record your id and password and return to this page.
- Next, create an association with Minneapolis College by following the steps below.
- A) Login to eServices with your new StarID
- B) Under Courses & Registration select Search for a Course
- C) Select Minneapolis Community and Technical College for the College/University
- D) Select the semester you wish to register
- E) Select your desired Subject and hit the blue Search button
- F) Find your desired course and click on the Add button, confirm adding to your wish list by selecting “OK”
- G) You should move to Review My Plan
- H) Click on the box next to the left of the course information
- I) Click on the blue button Select Courses to proceed to register
- J) Enter your star ID password.
- K) You should receive a Registration failed message but your Minneapolis College tech ID has now been created and will appear in the upper right corner next to Logout. Record this for future use.
- If you receive a message that your registration failed or that you must meet course prerequisites, you will need to submit a Prerequisite Verification form to the Registration and Records Office. Attach unofficial transcripts to show that you have met course prerequisites, or an approval email from the instructor to the form.

How will my credits transfer?
Course transfer is determined by the receiving institution. Visiting students are responsible to verify how their Minneapolis College course(s) transfer to current or future colleges or universities before enrolling. Request an official transcript once final grades have been posted.
Note: A seat in the class must be available to be registered. If the course is full, we will guide you through the waitlist process.
