Curriculum Review
Part 1. Purpose
This policy establishes a standardized comprehensive review process of all of the College’s curricular offerings on a regular cycle. The policy is designed to ensure curricular cohesiveness, quality, and relevancy of the curricular offerings to meet the student’s educational outcomes.
Part 2. Definitions
Academic Award: Defined in College Policy 3.03.
Academic Affairs and Standards Council (AASC): The Academic Affairs and Standards Council provides direction for the college president in all matters included in academic affairs, including course outlines, award requirements, academic standards, course and program components, and the inventory of the course and program offerings.
Advisory Committees: Minneapolis College has established College Program Advisory Committees in compliance with Minnesota State’s Program Advisory Committees Board Policy 3.30 and System Procedure 3.30.1.
Curriculum Review: An evidenced-informed iterative process focused on continuous improvement of student learning in curriculum conducted on a five-year cycle.

Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILOs): Defined in College Policy 3.04.
Program: Defined in College Policy 3.22
Program Learning Outcomes Assessment: An ongoing iterative process for the evaluation of student mastery of program learning outcomes (PLOs). (Described in College Policy 3.22)
Part 3. Responsibilities:
Subpart 1.
The Academic Affairs and Standards Council (AASC) provides direction for the college president in all matters included in academic affairs and follows procedures set by the bylaws of the AASC and Minnesota State Board Policy 3.36 and Procedure 3.36.1.
Subpart 2.
Faculty have the primary responsibility for developing new courses and programs as appropriate and necessary. Faculty are responsible for reviewing existing programs and courses and making revisions.
Subpart 3.
Academic program faculty are responsible for assessing their PLOs annually to ensure students are achieving mastery of the established PLOs. PLO assessment is considered a shared responsibility amongst academic program faculty.
Subpart 4.
Curriculum development is supervised and coordinated by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the appropriate academic dean.
Part 4. Curriculum Review
The College has a comprehensive curriculum review cycle facilitated by AASC as outlined in College Procedure 3.24.01. The review cycle seeks to ensure the curriculum for all active courses and programs is rigorous, current, relevant, culturally inclusive, and equity-minded.
This comprehensive review includes, but is not limited to, a review of:
- Information and data from the Program Learning Outcome (PLO) assessments from the previous five years
- Program/department’s PLOs
- Common course outline for each course offered by the program/department
- Department/program curriculum map
- Any curricular adjustments that the program/department plans to make at the program and/or course level.
