As we begin fall semester, I have a sense of hope and anticipation for what lies ahead. Something special happens when we come together on campus to work, study and learn. This fall we have every reason to celebrate, as we welcome more than 6,000 students, and as our buildings, classrooms and offices return to life.

While most Minneapolis College employees have been teleworking since the start of the pandemic, a group of our employees have continued to report to campus to do their jobs. I am grateful for this dedication. Their efforts have been essential in protecting and maintaining the College, as well as providing vital services to our employees and students.

I know there will be more uncertainty and new challenges in the days ahead. What gives me confidence is what we have overcome together. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on our successes and what it means to be part of this incredible group of people who make it all happen.

Please join me as we celebrate the new academic year at Fall Fest, on August 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in T Plaza. There will be food, games and activities for all employees to enjoy. I hope that you will take this opportunity to celebrate all that you’ve done, and will continue to do, to support our students.

This week we have two more opportunities to gather: on August 3, stop by from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for donuts and coffee in the Dunn Brothers seating area, on the second floor of the T-Building; and on August 4, in the same location, enjoy ice cream sundae cones and fruit pops, which will be served from 3 to 4 p.m.

As we come together again this academic year to meet our challenges head on, we demonstrate our resilience and resolve. This college is an extraordinary space filled with extraordinary people—faculty and staff who empower our community of learners to create better futures and realize their dreams.

Sincerely,

President Sharon Pierce
