A FREE Alternative to Developmental Education Coursework
Minneapolis Community and Technical College (Minneapolis College) invites you to take part in our In-person Summer Scholars Academy program for FREE with the opportunity to earn a $300 scholarship.
The Summer Scholars Academy helps build your confidence as a scholar and provides you with an opportunity to network in-person with peers and staff from Minneapolis College.
Through the program you will:
- Develop learning strategies/study skills in reading, writing and/or math
- Save hundreds of dollars on developmental education courses by completing
- Earn the opportunity to receive a $300 scholarship toward fall semester tuition upon successful completion of the program and fall registration.
- Explore the services and resources available to you with Minneapolis College through workshops on:
- Time Management Skills
- Technology Tips
- Financial Literacy
- Student Support
- Services/Resource Referral
- Career Services: Major/Career Exploration
Dates: July 11 - August 4, 2022 (Monday & Wednesday and/or Tuesday and Thursday)
Space is limited for this free opportunity for qualifying students.
Summer Scholars Academy Program Virtual Info and Registration Sessions:
- Wednesday, June 22 | 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- Thursday, June 23 | 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Monday, June 27 | 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
- Thursday, June 30 | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Am I Eligible?
The Summer Scholars Academy is available to Minneapolis College students with a READ 0200 course placement and/or a MATH 0070/0075 placement.
- Eligible Course Placement Methods and Metrics for Reading and English:
- Accuplacer Next Gen Reading score of 236 or higher
- Accuplacer Classic Reading score of 60 or higher
- High school GPA within the past 10 years of 2.1 or higher
- Eligible Guided Self-Placement of READ 0200
- Eligible Course Placement Methods and Metrics for Mathematics:
- Accuplacer Next Gen Arithmetic score of 260 or higher
- Accuplacer Classic Arithmetic score of 50 or higher
- Accuplacer Classic Elementary Algebra score of 46 or higher
- High school GPA within the past 10 years of 2.2 or higher
- Eligible Guided Self-Placement of MATH 0070

Program Dates and Orientation
The In-Person 2022 Summer Scholars Academy runs from July 11 – August 4 (Mondays and Wednesdays and/or Tuesdays and Thursdays). Orientation for the Summer Scholars Academy program is on campus on Thursday, July 7.
Schedule for Math 75 or Math 80:
- Mondays:
- Math 75: Class | 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. with Mandatory Lunch workshop (lunch provided) from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Math 80: Class | 12:45 p.m.- 2:45 p.m. with Mandatory Lunch workshop (lunch provided) from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Wednesdays:
- Math 75: Class | 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. | Optional tutoring: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Math 80: Class | 12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. | Optional Tutoring: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

- Tuesdays:
- Writing/English: Class | 9:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. with Mandatory Lunch workshop (lunch provided) from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
