All clinical partners have agreements with the Minneapolis College Nursing program that include vaccinations: all require the Covid-19 vaccination.
Please do not apply to the Nursing program if you cannot comply with the mandatory vaccination.
What courses are required before I can apply to the Nursing program?
- You must have successfully completed ENGL 1110, ENGL 1111, or ENGA 1110 with a grade of B or higher.
- You must have successfully completed BIOL 2224 Anatomy with lab with a grade of B or higher within three years of the application deadline.
- Courses must be completed, and grades posted by the application deadline. Courses cannot be in progress. Students should verify academic eligibility to apply by reviewing their Degree Audit Report (DARS) in eServices.
Do I need to be a Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aid to apply for the Nursing program?
No, but is highly recommended to be a more competitive applicant.
What grade point average (GPA) do I need to apply for the Nursing program?
Overall GPA is not a criterion for admission. Admission is partially dependent on the grades earned in the required prerequisite courses (ENGL, Anatomy). LPN candidates must have a 2.0 GPA in all their core LPN courses.
My TEAS is not at 70%, can I still apply?
No. The minimum TEAS score to apply is 70%.
Why can’t I start the advanced standing LPN to RN program in the fall?
LPN students are admitted with 5 credits of advanced standing only in the spring semester, and progress through the program four semesters for December graduation.
LPN students may waive their 5 credits of advanced standing, and apply to begin the program in fall semester. Students waiving the 5 credits of advanced standing should complete the regular Nursing application, not the advanced standing LPN to RN application. They will progress through the program 4 semesters for May graduation.
How much do Nursing classes and supplies cost?
The 2020-2021 tuition rate for Nursing courses (NPRO) is \$220.40 per credit. First semester books and supplies are approximately \$1,700.
Where are the Nursing clinical locations?
Our clinical partners include Hennepin Healthcare, Fairview Health Services, HealthEast Care System, and Children’s Minnesota.
Do I get to choose the clinical location I prefer?
No. Clinical assignments are determined by the nursing program administrator in consultation with nursing faculty.
What happens if I did not take Anatomy, I took Anatomy & Physiology I?
You must complete A&P I and A&P II at the same institution with grades of B or higher before you are eligible to apply.
Do you accept transfer students, or only students who take all their classes at Minneapolis College?
Yes. We accept eligible transfer students.
How and when will I be notified of my admission status for Nursing?
All applicants are notified by email after the nursing application review is complete.
What is the Nursing course schedule?
Nursing students must be available for coursework Monday through Friday during daytime hours.
Are there any Nursing scholarships?
Yes. Please refer to the financial aid webpage.
How many applications do you get for the program?
The number of applications vary with each admission cycle.
What is the job outlook for Nursing graduates?
We encourage our students to work with Career Services to track employment trends in the job market.
How are students ranked to be accepted?
All minimum admission requirements must be met. Applications are reviewed using the following criteria:
- ATI TEAS overall score and the number of attempts to achieve 70% or higher.
- SCIENCE requirement grade for BIOL 2224 (Anatomy with lab). Number of attempts to achieve “B” or higher grade.
- Completion of pre-nursing program coursework at Minneapolis College.
- Transcript review showing repeated course attempts, particularly in any science courses.
- Previous enrollment with failure and/or withdrawal from another college or university nursing program.
- Current enrollment in another college or university nursing program.
- Current nursing assistant and/or have completed Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide (NAHA 1819) is NOT required but may be used as application review criteria.
Note: Minneapolis College accepted nursing students who have withdrawn or failed the Minneapolis College nursing program are not eligible to apply.
How long does it take to complete the nursing program after I am accepted?
Four semesters (fall and spring only, no nursing coursework in the summer).
How do your graduates score on the NCLEX-RN national licensing exam?
The Minneapolis College NCLEX-RN pass rate in spring 2019 was 96.43%.
Do I have to continue and get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing?
No. Currently over 80% of our students continue on for their Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Is Augsburg my only choice of where to continue to work on my Bachelor of Science in Nursing?
No. Once you complete our Associate of Science in Nursing you are provisionally admitted to the BSN program at Augsburg University; however, you may apply for admission to any BSN completion program.

How can I tour the Nursing program, or talk to an advisor?
The campus has scheduled tours.
Prospective Minneapolis College students should meet with an Admission Advisor.
Current Minneapolis College students may schedule an appointment with their Academic Advisor.
Can international students be accepted into the Nursing program?
Yes. Students should work with their International Advisor.
Can PSEO students be accepted into the Nursing program?
No. PSEO students interested in nursing are encouraged to consider completion of the nursing assistant course at Minneapolis College.
Is Minneapolis College a MANE school?
No. The Minneapolis College nursing program is a concept based program with National League of Nursing (NLN) program outcomes, and has been continuously externally accredited since 1975. The program’s Associate of Science in Nursing degree is 64 credits, which may be considerably fewer credits than comparable schools.
I need to take Anatomy again to get a grade of B, can I still be accepted if I repeat the class?
You may be accepted into the program with repeated science courses. Your application will be reviewed in relation to other applications during that cycle, and you may be less competitive depending on the other applicants of that admission cycle.
What do I need to know about the criminal background check?
You must have a clear background study completed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS).
Background study results of disqualified candidates or with a set-aside, are not eligible to participate in the Minneapolis College nursing program. See the DHS website at https://mn.gov/dhs/general-public/background-studies/ for additional information.
Do you have a waitlist?
Yes, a waitlist is maintained during each application cycle. The length of the waitlist is dependent upon the number of applicants in any admission cycle. The waitlist does not carry over into the next application cycle.
All applicants are notified of their admission status of either admitted, denied, or waitlisted for that application cycle. Waitlisted students not offered a seat during an application cycle must reapply for the next cycle, are not guaranteed acceptance, and must continue to meet the application criteria.
