Exploratory Major: School of Design & the Arts Awards
Purpose:
The School of Design and the Arts, Liberal Arts Transfer offers awards through degrees, and diplomas in several educational programs. If you are not sure what you plan to major in, use this Exploratory Major guide to pick courses that count toward multiple different programs. This will allow you to begin earning credits toward a degree or diploma, even while you figure out which option is best for you.
This Exploratory Major Guide applies to the following awards (degrees):

- Apparel Technologies A.A.S. - 60 credits
- Architectural Technology Diploma - 55 credits
- Cinema A.S. - 60 credits
- Graphic Design: Digital & Print Media A.A.S. - 60 credits
- Music A.A. Emphasis - 60 credits
- Photography & Motion A.A.S. - 60 credits
- Sound Arts A.S. - 60 credits
- Theater Transfer Pathway A.F.A. - 60 credits
- Web Design & Front-End Development A.A.S. - 60 credits
All students pursuing this exploratory major should work closely with their advisor to ensure proper selection of the exploratory courses. This guide must be used in conjunction with the current College Catalog and the official degree audit for the specific awards.

MnTC Goal Area 1
Take any course from MnTC Goal Area 1 Any CMST course is recommended. Some CMST courses meet more than one goal area. However, credits can only be counted once.

Introduction to Acting 1, Introduction to Theater

- For all of the Cinema Awards, this course is a General Education Elective choice, required for A.F.A. Visual and A.F.A. Theater Arts
Cinema History Courses
CST 1101, 1102, 1103, 1104, 1105 & 1106 meet MnTC Goal Area 6 and some CIST courses meet more than one goal area. However, the credits can only be counted once.
- CIST courses will apply to all awards as MnTC Goal Area 6. Some awards require specific CIST courses.
