Three women student welders

Minneapolis College's new pilot program, We Thrive Women in the Trades, supported by a $200,000 grant from the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, aims to recruit women aged 25 and older into high-demand trade programs over the next two years.

Focused on economic empowerment, the initiative offers training in HVAC, Welding, CNC Machining, Bicycle Repair, and Aircraft Maintenance, along with scholarships, mentorship, and wraparound support services such as childcare and transportation aid.

Participants will join a special cohort beginning in Fall 2025 to foster connection and persistence.

The program aligns with the College’s long history of advancing career opportunities for women, dating back to its founding in 1914, and addresses the ongoing gender wage gap by preparing women for well-paying, asset-building careers in traditionally male-dominated fields.

Scholarship applications are accepted beginning April 1.
