Student players on state at Minneapolis College

Located in the midst of Minneapolis's vibrant fine arts community, Minneapolis College has many opportunities for students interested in music and theater. Students involved in our performing arts programs are able to work with faculty members who are both experienced instructors and practicing artists. Most of these offerings are available for both credit or non-credit participation. Community members who are not currently Minneapolis College students may participate through Continuing Education.

Music

Minneapolis College’s diverse student population is reflected in our global and multicultural approach to music. If you are looking for a performing ensemble to make music with, consider our Choir or Instrumental Ensembles!  Students may register for credit by using the listed course designators (MUSC 1310 or MUSC 1340), or may participate without credit by contacting the appropriate director listed below.

Choir

The Minneapolis College, College Choir (MUSC 1310) is made up of members of the Minneapolis College community who love to sing. No previous musical background is required for membership in this chorus, and there is no need to audition. All you need is a willingness to work hard, a love of music, and a desire to sing with others.

For more information about the choirs, contact the director: Elizabeth Pauly.

Instrumental Ensembles

Minneapolis College supports four regularly rehearsing and performing instrumental groups: Chamber Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Latin Music Ensemble, and Video Game Music Ensemble. Bring your curiosity, bring your passion, and become a part of our musical community!

For more information, contact ensembles director Joel Sundseth.

Theater

If theater is your interest, let the stage be your learning lab. Experience the exhilaration of performing on three different stages—proscenium, thrust stage or black box—as part of the program’s faculty-directed productions each year. Minneapolis College is in the heart of a vibrant theater community that includes multiple stages, including the internationally acclaimed Guthrie Theater.

Minneapolis is known as being second to New York in live theater and is the third-largest theater market after New York and Chicago.

There are countless opportunities at Minneapolis College and in Minneapolis for acting, directing, designing or going to see productions. We have two Main stage productions each year on campus, where our students creatively collaborate with faculty, community members and artists-in-residence.
