LUCHA is excited to partner with Academic Advising to offer Advising con Asencio!
Once a month, LUCHA will host Academic Advisor Steve Asencio who will share important and useful information as it relates to academic advising. The first session will focus on Credit for Prior Learning. Students coming into Minneapolis College with certain skill-sets may be interested to learn how they can put their skills to the test (literally) and receive college credit.
This informative session will provide more information and answer questions such as:
- What does the process look like for Spanish-speaking students who want to receive credit?
- What does the process look like for students with the Bilingual Seal from the State of Minnesota (State Exam)?
- How does prior learning transfer to college credits at Minneapolis College?
- What are the benefits of Credit for Prior Learning, and who is eligible?
- What other courses are available for credit by exam?

The focus of this session is on Goal Areas and Understanding Credit Load.Students who want to understand goal areas and how to strategically select courses for next semester will benefit most from this session.
This session will answer questions like:
- How do I know what classes you need to graduate? (How to pick classes)
- How do I know what Goal Areas fulfill my degree requirements?
- Credit vs Class – What does “credit” mean, and how does it affect my course load?

This session will focus on Withdrawals and W’s on Transcripts. Students who want a better understanding on the implications of dropping or being dropped from a course won’t want to miss this session!
This session will answer questions like:
- What should I do if I am considering withdrawing from a course?
- What are the consequences or implications from withdrawing from a course?
- When are the deadlines to withdraw from a course?
- What is an “appeal” and how might they help me?

This session will focus on Transfer Planning. Students who want to plan ahead to their academic journey beyond Minneapolis College will want to tune in for tips and strategies for how to prepare.
We’ll be tackling the following questions:
- What questions should I be asking at transfer institutions?
- How can I make a hypothetical transfer plan? What do I need to make one?
- What goal areas should I focus on for a smooth transfer?
