Leveraged Equipment Program
Leverage the strength of Minneapolis College’s education opportunities by donating state-of-the-art instructional technology, equipment and tools that help us expertly train the students who will be your future workforce in high demand technical and trade careers. Thanks to a special appropriation from Minnesota’s Legislature, Minneapolis College can “leverage” cash and equipment donations from corporate and business partners with matching funds from the State.
Minneapolis College plays a critical role in solving Minnesota’s workforce shortage by partnering and collaborating with the local business community.
This partnership accomplishes three important initiatives:
- Creates a pipeline and prepares our students to earn a college credential in occupational areas with high employer need as well as gain a competitive edge by acquiring skills needed to enter these high-wage careers.
- Helps the College meet the growing technical trades and workforce demand by building long-term industry partnerships that help shape the future of a skilled Minnesota workforce.
- Provides tools for success and supports hands-on student learning and college affordability by securing matched cash donations and equipment for industry-current equipment for students to train with.
State funds will be matched dollar-for-dollar by cash or in-kind contributions from non-state sources. Match must be related to the program equipment purchased with state funds.
Eligibility for cash match funds include grant funds from non-profit, private or federal sources and cash donations made directly to Minneapolis College or Minneapolis College Foundation.
In-kind contributions are non-cash gifts that have a calculable cash value. Examples of in-kind match include:
- The value of donated instructional equipment
- The value of donated materials, software, curriculum products and supplies for the equipment
- The value of donated training provided by industry experts on the new equipment to faculty, staff or students
- The value of donated labor and materials required to install the equipment
- The value of vendor discounts on equipment purchases. Vendor discounts are defined as any reduction in price below the lowest bid price received after the procurement process.
The following sources may not be counted as match:
- Cash from state funds, included state appropriated funds
- Student paid tuition or fees
- Physical enhancements or updates to a facility, such as construction or modification of a science lab
Programs eligible to access leveraged equipment funds must be in designated high-demand program areas based on Occupational Demand Data, including:
- Accounting & Finance
- Addiction Counseling

- Architectural Technology
- Business Management
- CNC Machinist – Machine Tool
- Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
