Participation in Course Activities
Part 1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that unauthorized individuals are not in the classroom setting and that faculty have guidance on how to deal with disruptive behavior in classes.
This policy does not apply to guest speakers or other guest educators that have been approved by the instructor as part of the course.
Part 2. Non-registered Individuals in the Classroom
Only currently registered students of a course may attend course lectures or labs, participate in activities, or use classroom or lab equipment or materials. Students are not allowed to bring children, parents, or other non-registered parties to class.
Part 3. Instructor's Rights
Subpart A. Disruptive Student
In in-person and online synchronous course sessions, an instructor may dismiss for the remainder of the class period a student who is disrupting course activities.
Subpart B. Assistance and Referral in Response to Class Disruptions
An instructor must notify the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities when a student's disruptive activity warrants further action.
In cases where disruptions involve, or may involve, violence or threats to public safety, the instructor must promptly notify the College’s Public Safety Department or call 911.
