Minneapolis College Community,

As we are on the heels of Transgender Day of Remembrance, we want to take a moment to recognize and remember those who have lost their lives to anti-trans violence. Transgender Day of Remembrance occurs every year on November 20. The day marks an opportunity to honor transgender and non-conforming individuals who have been killed simply for existing in their gender identities. This year alone, there have been at least 32 individuals whose lives have been taken.

The LGBTQIA+ community continues to see a rise in targeted fatal attacks, with the most recent taking place this weekend in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As we take the time to mourn the deaths of the five individuals in Colorado Springs, we want to reiterate our continued commitment of working to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive Minneapolis College Campus. We want members of our LGBTQIA+ and other marginalized communities to know that they are a part of our community and that they belong here.

For those looking for ways to further inform themselves on how to support Transgender or other LGBTQIA+ initiatives, I have provided a link below with resources.
