Minneapolis College is creating opportunities for students to succeed. “We understand every student has needs and goals that are unique to them, so we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach,” said Heidi Aldes, Dean of Enrollment Management.

“We provide individualized support to ensure students have what they need to succeed. Accessible onboarding, scholarship opportunities, holistic student support, flexible scheduling and guided learning pathways ensure a clear path to graduation.”

Accessible Onboarding

Whether a new college student, transfer student, international student, returning student, high school student or visiting/non-degree seeking student, onboarding is easy.

“Our admissions experts provide information and support tailored to meet your needs to ensure ease of enrollment, academic advising, course scheduling and career support,” said Aldes. “We are demystifying the college experience, making it as easy as possible so the only thing students have to worry about is their work inside the classroom.”

Scholarship Opportunities

More than half a million dollars in scholarships are awarded to students each year based on financial need, academic interest, volunteer experience or other activities. And it’s now easier than ever to understand and access scholarship dollars because they are being awarded on a rolling basis.”

“When we can connect students to financial resources so they don’t have to work full-time, research shows they will reap the rewards with higher success. In fact, students who receive scholarships are more likely to persist, graduate at higher rates and have lower stop-out rates,” said Aldes.

General scholarships offered through the College, for example, fund students’ academic-related expenses. In addition to tuition and fees, scholarships provide for books, materials, tools and equipment. Bus passes are also made available to ensure students can get to and from school with ease.

“The financial support I received from the College and its generous donors has allowed my family and me to move forward in many ways including pursuing my passion to help others,” said Joshua Hage, scholarship recipient and Addiction Counseling student.

Student Support

Minneapolis College is known for meeting students where they are on their academic journey and standing alongside them if they need access to resources including counseling, food, housing assistance, recovery services, parenting resources and more.

“Through on-campus resources, referrals, direct service and outside agency coordination, students gain access, information and support to address specific needs,” said Aldes. “Connecting currently enrolled students with supportive community networks, resources and opportunities can ease obstacles interfering with their success.”

Flexible Scheduling and Guided Learning Pathways

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic encouraged the College to innovate and fine-tune virtual access points. The innovation continues to provide flexible and balanced course offerings including in-person, online and hybrid classes. Regardless of their learning style, students can learn in the way that works best for them.

Guided learning pathways provide a clear path to graduation. “We are streamlining each student’s journey through college by providing a structured approach with support along the way to ensure students stay on their selected path and reach their goals,” said Aldes.

Minneapolis College provides access to the transformative power of education in a diverse and dynamic environment, and encourages students to persist by creating opportunities for their success.
