Phi Theta Kappa: Alpha Epsilon Sigma
With roots tracing as far back as 1910, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is a national honor society that prides itself on helping students reach their full potential, inside and outside of the classroom.
PTK works to provide students opportunities to develop their professional and leadership skills, explore various career paths, and earn scholarships. All of these opportunities can be helpful to students if they are looking to enter directly into the workforce following graduation or transfer from Minneapolis College to a four-year institution in the future.
All Minneapolis College students are invited to apply for PTK. To be eligible for membership, students must meet the following criteria:
- Complete at least 12 College-level credits at Minneapolis College (at the 1000-level or higher)
- Have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 (Cumulative GPA is the average GPA of ALL of your semesters at Minneapolis College)
- Be currently enrolled at Minneapolis College
Once eligibility is confirmed, students pay a one-time $65 membership fee to Phi Theta Kappa’s national chapter. Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be invited to apply for a scholarship through Minneapolis College that covers the cost of this membership fee. Nearly 30 scholarships have already been awarded this academic year!
The Minneapolis College chapter of PTK, Alpha Epsilon Sigma, was started in 1979. The chapter functions as a student club and is run by students with support from club advisors and the Student Life Department. The club is always looking for new members to join and there are currently a few leadership roles that are open within the club. Aside from an amazing resume builder, becoming involved with the club offers students the opportunity to grow their leadership skills and potentially build connections to the worldwide PTK network, along with expanding the chapter’s efforts to serve the campus community.
For more information about the Minneapolis College chapter of PTK, please reach out to the club’s staff advisor, Abdullahi Aden, or the Student Life Department.
