Annual Fund: From Roofing to the Operating Room
José is a first-generation American immigrant. He's also an undocumented college student.
"One day while I was having a hard day at work tearing down the roof of a house, I realized I could do something bigger. At that moment I knew I was capable of pursuing a higher education."
José enrolled in Minneapolis College's School of Nursing program and graduated with a 3.0 GPA earlier this month. His next step is Metro State University to earn a bachelor's degree in Biology. José's sights are set on attending a top-ranked medical school and he credits Minneapolis College for helping him get there.
"I am one step closer to my dream of becoming a surgeon. Being awarded a scholarship from the Minneapolis College Foundation took a heavy burden off my shoulders. I am humbled and honored that they believed in me. I can't wait when I become a surgeon, so that I can pay it forward by helping the underrepresented in our community."

We are delighted to introduce you to Patsy. She became an Minneapolis College student last fall, majoring in Human Services.
"I know this is just the beginning and I have a long way to go, but I'm glad my journey starts here at Minneapolis College."
Patsy plans to transfer to Augsburg College and pursue her bachelor's degree in social work.
"My education and career path has been made possible due to the generous donations that made my scholarships possible. I am very moved by knowing someone believed in me enough to ensure that I will have a place to utilize my gifts and talents. I will never take that for granted."
