First Year Experience
Success Starts Here
The First Year Experience is designed to help you make a successful transition to college.
Here are three things we encourage all students to do for a successful start.
Orientation
Your first semester starts before your first class. Orientation helps you get connected, familiarize yourself with the campus and prepare for your first semester.
Student Success Workshops
Watch short videos that help you build college and life skills—from managing your time to succeeding in the classroom.
Bonus: Complete a Student Success Workshop for an automatic entry into the monthly $500 scholarship drawing. The more workshops you complete, the more chances you have to win!
First-Year Success Courses
First Year Experience courses help you build the skills to succeed in college. Develop study strategies, explore career goals, and prepare for your future.
Find the Support You Need
Who Can Help Me?
You don't have to figure out college on your own. From academic advising to tutoring and Career Services, there are people across campus ready to help. The students who succeed are often the ones who ask for help early.
Where Do I Belong?
College is more than classes. Getting involved helps you meet people, build friendships, and feel connected to campus. Students who engage in campus life are more likely to reach their goals.
How Do I Get Ready for Class?
Set yourself up for success before your first day. Order your books, get connected to campus technology, and find your favorite study spot.
How Do I Take Care of Myself?
Doing your best starts with feeling your best. Minneapolis College offers free health, wellness, and fitness resources to support your physical and mental well-being.
Ready for fun?
Illuminate Quest is a fun campus challenge that rewards you for getting involved. Explore campus, meet new people, and discover resources that will help you succeed. Every event and appointment earns you points toward prizes.
How it works:
1. Earn one point for every campus event you attend
2. Earn one point for each of these services:
We'll add events and workshops thought the semester so check back!
The more you participate, the more chances you have to win! Prizes will be awarded to our top participants, plus there will be a random drawing for anyone who attends at least one event.
