Whether you're new to college, returning after time away, or transferring from another school, Orientation will help you get ready for your first semester.

We encourage you to complete the following important steps before classes begin!

If you haven't registered yet, register for classes here. Already registered? Great! Orientation is still one of the best ways to prepare for your first semester.

Step 1: Complete Your Online Orientation 

Log in to your Minneapolis College Online Orientation and click on New Student Orientation. Complete all lessons at your own pace.  

Username: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
Password: Your StarID password

Note: It may take up to 24 hours after registering for classes before you can access Online Orientation.

Step 2: Attend First Light Orientation

First Light Orientation helps new students get familiar with campus, student technology, resources, and opportunities to get involved. All students are welcome (PSEO students attend a separate orientation).

Step 3: Set Up Your Student Technology

Learn how to access and use Minneapolis College technology, including email, D2L, and Navigate, and wireless access. You'll also discover online resources and tips for success.

Learn the Basics of D2L Brightspace

  • Online courses and most in-person courses will require the use of D2L Brightspace.
  • Schedule for D2L Brightspace sessions will be posted in D2L announcements closer to the beginning of the semester.

Do I need to attend orientation?
Students who attend Orientation are more likely to succeed! Orientation helps you learn about Minneapolis College, access important resources, and prepare for a successful start to the semester.

How long does orientation take?
Our half-day in-person program is less than 4 hours. Adult Learner and Online programs are 2 to 2.5 hours. Check the orientation options for specific requirements and timelines.

How do I access orientation?
Access the Online Orientation through the link on the Student Checklist or the link on the Orientation web page. You can sign up to attend an In-Person or Online interactive program through the “Register Here” links on the Orientation page.

What if I need help with technology?
Orientation includes resources and guidance for using email, D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and other college technology.

When should I complete orientation?
Complete orientation as soon as possible after registering for classes so you're prepared before the semester begins.

What happens after orientation?
You'll be ready to connect with offices across campus, register for classes if needed, access support services, and begin your Minneapolis College journey.
