Verification Requirements
Office/person responsible: Financial Aid Office
Verification is the confirmation through documentation that the information provided on a student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is correct. The federal government requires colleges and universities to verify or confirm the data reported by student and their parent(s) on the FAFSA prior to awarding Federal Financial Aid funds.
The Financial Aid Office will compare the information provided on the FAFSA to the documentation collected during the verification process. If there are errors on your application, we will update your application, recalculate your aid eligibility and send a current award notification.
If you are selected for verification, documents must be received and processed by our office no later than 120 days after the last day of enrollment or the first of September following the end of the academic year, whichever is earlier. Failure to do so will result in the inability to receive aid. All federal loans must be awarded and certified during the term of enrollment.
This requirement includes:
- A written statement explaining: documents required for verification
- A list of student’s responsibilities (correction procedures, deadlines, consequences of missing deadlines)
- Notification method (how school will notify student of award changes based on verification and the time-frame for the notification)
