Thanks to a grant awarded to Minneapolis College by the National Science Foundation. Up to 22 students for the Spring semester will be provided with an opportunity to participate in a scholarship and mentoring program designed to help them achieve their academic goals.

Eligibility

Applicants must satisfy the following criteria:

Be enrolled full time (12 or more credits) at Minneapolis College
Be pursuing a degree in one of the STEM disciplines (biology, chemistry, mathematics, or pre-engineering
Be a US citizen, US National, US Permanent Resident or Admitted Refugee
Demonstrate academic potential or ability (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75)
Demonstrate financial need, defined for undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for need-based federal financial aid. This is determined by your FAFSA for the semester applying
Nursing and Health Science students are not eligible.

Successful Applicants

Successful applicants will receive:

Maximum of $3750 per semester, the maximum length of scholarship is 3 semesters depending on NSF funding
Academic advising and assistance
Professional development activities
Career services and counseling
Peer mentoring
Faculty mentor
An opportunity to apply for Undergraduate Research Experience

Retaining the Scholarship

To retain the S-STEM scholarship for the maximum four (4) semesters, depending on NSF funding the recipients must:

Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 with the goal of advancement to GPA or 3 or above
Maintain full time status at Minneapolis College
Demonstrate satisfactory progress towards a degree in a STEM discipline
Continue to meet the federal financial aid requirements
Participate in all required events in the program (including, but not limited to, regular monthly group meetings, two mentor meetings per semester, one advisor meeting per semester, and special events such as field trips)
Regularly check and respond to scholarship program-related emails and communications on D2L.
Complete a reapplication form for each additional semester after initial acceptance.
