Career Readiness Digital Badging Program

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) defines Career Readiness as the “attainment and demonstration of requisite competencies that broadly prepare college graduates for a successful transition into the workplace.” (NACE, 2015).

Based on extensive research, employers overwhelmingly reported the importance of these career readiness competencies including:

  • Oral/written communication
  • Critical thinking/problem solving
  • Leadership; teamwork/collaboration
  • Digital technology
  • Career management
  • Professionalism/work ethic
  • Global/intercultural fluency.

These career readiness skills help students establish a solid foundation in becoming career ready upon entering the workforce.

One way to address this is by providing students the opportunity to develop these core competencies through a micro-credential digital badge program.  Our program is underpinned by the 21st Century Skills Badging initiative managed by the Minnesota State IT Center of Excellence.  Our Career Readiness Digital Badging program currently has eight specific digital badges aligning with NACE’s career readiness initiative.

They include:

  • Oral/Written Communication
  • Critical Thinking
  • Initiative/Leadership
  • Collaboration/Teamwork
  • Intercultural Fluency
  • Empathy
  • Resilience, and Creative Problem Solving.

Additional Program Information:

  • Students have the option of attending virtual workshops or completing a module on their own based on their timeline and outside commitments.
  • Students must complete all assignments, reflection exercises, and quizzes within one module and receive a score of 80% to receive a digital badge. By receiving a score of 80%, this demonstrates the student’s competency in that skill area.
