American Indian Studies
Program Description
The American Indian Studies certificate is an ideal stepping-stone for students interested in a four-year program in American Indian Studies. The program offers a concentrated study of the historical and contemporary issues of Native American peoples and cultures, with emphasis on Native Americans in Minnesota.

What You Will Learn
- You will gain a background in Native American History.
- You will have the opportunity to study traditional and contemporary literature and art.
- You may choose courses learning Ojibwe and/or the Dakota language.
- You will learn about contemporary issues that face Native Americans in contemporary society, in both rural and urban areas.
Beyond-the-Classroom Opportunities
You may join UNITE—United Nations of Indian Tribes for Education, which promotes cultural awareness of the American Indian people and supports all diverse groups within MCTC's surrounding communities. There are also opportunities to volunteer or do an internship with the numerous Native American organizations located in the Twin Cities.

A certificate in American Indian Studies provides a foundation for many different career paths.
