Davu Underwood Seru Bio
Along with serving as Curator of the Archie Givens Sr. Collection of African American Literature and Life at the University of Minnesota, Davu is also an acclaimed drummer, scholar and educator, raised in North Minneapolis and a descendant of fugitive slaves who migrated to Hastings, Minnesota, in 1862.
Davu is co-author with photographer Charles Chamblis of the book Sight, Sounds, Soul: The Twin Cities Through the Lens of Charles Chamblis (Minnesota Historical Society Press 2017) and co-author of a forthcoming book about Black elder artist Seitu Ken Jones. He has received numerous awards including both the Jerome and McKnight composer fellowships.
