Accounting is one of today’s fastest-growing professions, with numerous career path options. Minneapolis College’s new accounting diploma will help students establish an in-depth understanding of foundational accounting principles and how to apply them so they are prepared for a career as a bookkeeper, payroll clerk, income tax clerk and general accountant.

“If you strive to be part of the heart of a business and want to hone your technical skills in the primary areas of accounting including business communication, economics, income tax, payroll tax and Excel, this is the path for you,” said Jennifer Stauffer, accounting faculty who developed a love of numbers early and built an accounting career from the ground up, ultimately landing a career teaching what she loves.

“This diploma will enable you to get to work immediately, be adept in a vast range of accounting technical skills, work remotely and build a foundation to advance in your field.”

Stauffer knows companies are willing to invest in people, especially when it comes to accounting so the strong partnership with Minneapolis College’s Career Services is essential. “As baby boomers retire, even more accounting opportunities are surfacing,” said Stauffer. “Career Services helps students connect to employment by working with them to build their resume, develop interviewing skills and connect with potential employers through online career fairs.”

Minneapolis College 2016 Phi Theta Kappa graduate Foday Fanday expresses gratitude for the strong accounting foundation he attained at the College and the welcoming campus community. “I came to Minneapolis College with a degree in history and political science from Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone. “I looked at the U.S. economy and first gravitated to business, ultimately learning accounting is my passion,” said Foday who works as a tax analyst at a Fortune 500 business and often returns to campus to share his career experiences and inspire students.

“After obtaining foundational skills at Minneapolis College, I transferred to a 4-year school to earn my bachelor’s degree and am now working toward an MBA. Looking back, there is nothing more great than the education and the encouragement I received at Minneapolis College.”

Fanday’s ultimate goal is to give back to society, both in the U.S. and Sierra Leone. “My educational experience allowed me to thrive and I want to encourage other people to reach for their dreams and find success. Minneapolis College felt like home to me and allowed me to feel comfortable, thrive and make positive memories that I will hold on to for a lifetime.”
