Twenty-two years ago, Faith Ross walked through the doors of Minneapolis College as a 17-year-old Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) student. “Attending college as a high school senior was a transformative experience for me,” said Ross, who grew up in South Minneapolis and lived in Washburn’s district, but attended Southwest High School for their International Baccalaureate (IB) Program.

“I used to take the city bus downtown to Minneapolis College for classes – back then it was called MCTC.  Those days taught me so much about independence, community, and possibility. I made lifelong friends, and I felt what it was like to be truly supported by an educational community.” She added, “That time in my life showed me what it means to be on the other side of the door – I understand firsthand how access, encouragement, and investment can change a life trajectory.”

At 18 years old, Ross was accepted at Morgan State University, an HBCU in Baltimore, the same school Minneapolis College President Sharon Pierce earned her doctorate. When she attended orientation, full of excitement and hope, she learned she didn’t qualify for student loans and had to return home. She describes the experience as one that made her stronger and one that continues to drive her today. In her new position within the Minneapolis College Foundation, she wants to ensure Minneapolis College students never have to face the same barriers she did.

“To return with this important assignment in the very place that helped shape me, is deeply personal,” said Ross, who is inspired to advance equity, access, and opportunity for students navigating similar obstacles to her own. “My vision is to position the Foundation as a bridge, connecting the College, the community, and our partners to committed, equity-centered outcomes. My vision for the Foundation aligns with Chancellor Olson’s Equity 2030 goal of closing the educational equity gaps across race and ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and geographic location at every Minnesota State college and university by 2030.”

Experience Will Pave the Way

Ross’s experience spans roles including Donor Relations Director at The Salvation Army Northern Division, Resource Development Manager at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, and Booking Manager for Known MPLS—where she negotiated high-profile contracts and increased revenue for major events with organizations like the MN Twins, MPR, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Avenues for Youth.

Ross is a strategic fundraiser, business developer, and entrepreneur who is passionate about building meaningful connections and driving sustainable growth. Her background in donor relations, fundraising, revenue generation, and community impact has helped her secure more than $1M annually for nonprofit programs, develop innovative fundraising campaigns, and cultivate lasting donor and corporate partnerships.

The Minneapolis College Foundation supports students with a half-million dollars in scholarships annually.
