Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act

  1. Minneapolis College has signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the College has used or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
  2. Minneapolis College was awarded $2,320,061 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  3. Minneapolis College disbursed $2,320,061 as of 03/31/2021.
  4. Minneapolis College has identified 5,386 students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.  These students are eligible to receive funds, but are not guaranteed.
  5. To date, 1,050 grants have been paid to eligible students who reported emergent cost of attendance expenses related to the pandemic.
  6. The college identified the following as eligible for aid:

Students enrolled in Spring Semester 2020 as of March 6, 2020 are eligible to receive CARES Act funding with the following exceptions:

  • Concurrent high school students,
  • Postsecondary enrollment option students (PSEO)
  • Those being assessed a senior citizen tuition rate
  • Those enrolled in non-credit courses
  • International students
  • DACA students
  • All employees utilizing waivers at Minneapolis College or another institution  (employee dependents utilizing waivers ARE eligible)
  • Fully online students (may be eligible for emergency grants

Eligible students received $100 base award.  Pell eligible students received additional supplemental funds based on credits enrolled as a percent of full share:

  • $858.37 | 12+ | 100% share based on Mpls College Credits           
  • $643.78 | 9-11.5 | 75% share based on Mpls College Credits
  • $429.19 | 6-8.5 | 50% share based on Mpls College Credits
  • $214.59 | 1-5.5 | 25% share based on Mpls College Credits

Additional funds made available through emergency application process.

  1. Funds were distributed to students through Bank Mobile with a notice indicating funds needed to be used to cover eligible COVID-19 interruption expenses such as food, housing, course materials, health care, child care, transportation, and technology-related expenses.  Student received multiple communications regarding the funds.
