Data Science Career Panel

Members of Medtronic’s clinical statistics group will share stories about their career paths, finding work in data science, and what their daily jobs are like. An open Q+A will follow. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome.

Data scientist has been called “the most promising career” by LinkedIn and the “best job in America” by Glassdoor. Demand for data scientists is high, salaries are competitive, and the perks are numerous. 

Data scientist employment has increased by 650 percent since 2012 and shows no sign of stopping. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that demand for data science skills will increase another 27.9 percent by 2026. A McKinsey report indicates a shortage in the U.S. alone of 140,000-190,000 people with analytical skills—besides the 1.5 million managers and analysts who will be needed to understand the data that drives decision-making.
