Minneapolis College student Brady Lockwood, of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) program, took 6th place in the nation at the Skills USA competition that took place in Louisville, Kentucky in June.

HVACR Instructor Hugo Morales, who accompanied him on the trip, remarked, “He did very well and represented (the College) very well also.”

Brady qualified for this competition based on his success in the Minnesota Skills USA competition, at which he earned the gold medal. Four of our star HVACR students recently competed in the Minnesota statewide Skills USA HVACR contest held in April at the Minneapolis Pipefitter's training center in Brooklyn Park. Brady came in 1st at that competition, which allowed him to compete in the national event.

Morales continued, "I just want to thank instructors Greg Skudlarek and John Singel who helped him become a great technician, and also support from (Student Life Director) Tara Martinez and Vince Thomas, dean (of the School of Trade Technologies).”

Thomas remarked, “We couldn’t find a better example of what is possible for our students.”
