Policy 1.09

Part 1. Purpose

The purpose of this policy and its procedure is to create transparency and structure around the creation, operation, and functioning of official college-wide standing committees at Minneapolis College.

This policy and its procedure are intended to guide the work of standing committees, which are charged by the President's Council with doing work on behalf of the College. This policy does not in any way limit the ability of other groups to form on campus without being sanctioned by the President's Council, though these groups should refer to themselves as "workgroups" to distinguish them from official standing committees.

This policy and its procedure do not govern search committees, contractual committees (such as shared governance committees), or academic program advisory committees.

Part 2. Definitions

Standing Committees: Standing Committees are officially recognized ongoing committees, charged by the President's Council with certain ongoing responsibilities on behalf of the College.

Workgroups: Workgroups can be formed for time-limited projects that do not fall within an existing standing committee’s purview.

Search Committees: Search committees are convened through Human Resources to evaluate and interview applicants during the hiring process.

Contractual Committees: Contractual committees are established to respond to provisions of employee bargaining contacts (e.g. ASFCME, MAPE, MMA, and MSCF).

Program Advisory Committee: A committee that provides expert advice and assistance to college professional-technical programs as required by Minnesota State Board Policy 3.30 and Procedure 3.30.01.
