Emergency Grants Available to Students Impacted by the Pandemic
Minneapolis College prides itself on providing access to the transformative power of education. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students face financial hardships. Food and housing insecurities, tuition payments, increased healthcare and childcare expenses, high transportation costs and technology-related expenses are among the expenses where students can fall short.
Thanks to emergency funding available through the Higher Education Emergency Relief III (HEERF III), and authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Minneapolis College has awarded more than 1,000 emergency grants to eligible students. The College created this fund to help students avert crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Emergency funds are still available (through April 15, or until funds are exhausted).
“Minneapolis College is determined to utilize its allotment of HEERF funding to help students overcome financial hardships related to the pandemic,” said Chris Rau, Vice President of Finance and Operations at Minneapolis College. “During Spring Semester 2022, the College will again award more than $1,000,000 in emergency grants to eligible students.”
The emergency funding is part of the College’s efforts to meet the needs of its students so they can reach their educational goals. Emergency grants for college costs allow students to remain in school without interruption. Grants are available to students to pay college costs such as food, housing, tuition, course supplies, healthcare, childcare, transportation and technology related expenses that have been compromised due to the pandemic.
Eligible students must be enrolled at Minneapolis College in Spring 2022 and attending at least one course as of February 16, 2022. Unlike other grant funding, the emergency grants are available to qualifying students, including international and undocumented students.
