Jr. Page Scholars visited Minneapolis College in April to learn about career pathways as well as student experiences on campus.

This scholarship program is based on the Page Scholar program, founded by Diane Sims and former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Alan Page, for college-age students of color. The Jr. Page Scholar program focuses on 8th graders who want to explore and gain insight on different career opportunities.

“I want to be able to expose them to different pathways that will lead them to a rewarding and successful career,” said Robert Piurowski, Director of Admissions at Minneapolis College. ‘I want us to be the catalyst for change, providing all our students the access and opportunity to see their future selves.’”

In addition to taking the students on a campus tour and providing an admission information session, the College hosted a student panel in collaboration with the College’s Equity and Inclusion Division. The panel consisted of current Minneapolis College students and the Jr. Scholars had the opportunity to ask them questions. The Jr. Scholars also had lunch with Alan Page. At the end of their visit, they attended a session about finding themselves and their community in college.

After visiting the College, the Jr. Scholars stopped by a local elementary school and read one of Page’s books to the students there.
