Late Payment of Tuition and Fees

Body

Part 1. Purpose

To ensure that the College and universities shall charge tuition consistent with State of Minnesota statutes and Minnesota State Board of Trustee policies.

Part 2. Definitions

The following definitions apply to this procedure:

Institutional Payment Plan: Any arrangement made with the College’s Business Office to pay a current-term balance owed past the College’s tuition and fee payment due date. Per Minnesota State Board of Trustees Procedure 5.12.5, students are required to be enrolled in an institutional payment plan for any balance due that will not be covered by financial aid or waivers. An institutional payment plan may be the student’s primary method of payment, or it may supplement other forms of payment such as financial aid or tuition waiver.

Reciprocity: The granting of the Minnesota resident tuition rate for students from states where reciprocity agreements with the State of Minnesota are in place, including Any student who is a legal resident of Wisconsin, North Dakota and or South Dakota. may attend Minneapolis College on the same basis as Minnesota residents and pay fees determined in reciprocity agreements.

Tuition Deferment: The postponement of tuition and fee due dates for eligible students, such as veterans.

Part 3. Process

The College will charge a payment plan fee for any student who:

  • Does not have a FAFSA on file for current award year, and
  • Has not enrolled in a private payment plan, and
  • Does not receive third party support, and
  • Is not a high school student attending college through PSEO, and
  • Has not submitted a successful request for a deferral for tuition payments made by the date published in the College course schedule.

If a student fails to make a full installment payment according to their institutional payment plan, a late fee will be assessed for each missed installment.

For students with an outstanding balance at the end of a term, a late fee will be assessed if they are not enrolled in the institutional payment plan. Late fees are non-refundable. Checks offered in payment of tuition that are not honored by the bank shall constitute unpaid tuition and will be subject to the late fee, NSF check fee, and possible payment plan fees.
