Part 1. Purpose

This policy establishes Minneapolis College’s commitment to affirmative action and highlights state and system policies, rules, and regulations related to affirmative action that guide the College. 

Part 2. Institutional Commitment

Minneapolis College is committed to and supports affirmative action steps and programs intended to remedy the historical underrepresentation of persons of color, women, veterans, and persons with disabilities in the workforce.

Part 3. Key System and State Affirmative Action Guidelines and Requirements

The following list of policies, rules, and regulations are key, but not exclusive, guidelines regarding affirmative action at Minneapolis College:

Part 4. Affirmative Action Officer

Per State of Minnesota Statute 43A.191, agencies are required to designate an Affirmative Action officer (AAO). The AAO for Minneapolis College is the Vice President of Human Resources and Workforce Equity.

Per MMB Policy MB HR/LR #1379, the AAO’s primary responsibility for development and maintenance of the agency’s affirmative action plan. Other AAO affirmative action activities include: conducting inquiries; advising on, critiquing and investigating agency operations as they pertain to affirmative action, equal opportunity and/or nondiscrimination; and acting in a timely and appropriate manner to promote and encourage an agency’s compliance with affirmative action plan requirements and legal requirements regarding equal opportunity and nondiscrimination.
