What is TREC?

Description

The Transformation and Re-entry Through Education and Community (TREC) partnership between Minneapolis College and Metropolitan State University is a comprehensive higher education in prison program committed to expanding educational access, upholding academic excellence, and providing robust re-entry support.

As of fall semester 2025, TREC serves more than 300 incarcerated students pursuing degrees across three Minnesota correctional facilities, while also supporting nearly 100 students transitioning back to our main campuses. In its first four years, the program has awarded over 100 associate degrees and 60 bachelor’s degrees—demonstrating the power of education to transform lives and communities.
